Dependency of Gear Honing Machine Processing Accuracy on Machine Vibration and the Vibration Reduction Considering Contribution2024-32-002004/18/2025
In recent years, accurate gear processing is required for various products to improve efficient power transmission and small noise and vibration. On the other hand, the accuracy tends to be worse by high speed processing for increasing production efficiency. Therefore, we investigated relationship between gear honing machine vibration and the accuracy. The vibration acceleration of the honing machine was measured at various conditions, and the gear accuracy was measured after processing. As results, the accuracy was observed to be affected by both the original gear accuracy before honing processing and the gear secondary rotational vibration of the machine in operation. Subsequently, we applied transfer path analysis (TPA) to investigate which directional force in operation increased the vibration. Aluminum-tin alloy lined bimetals have traditionally been utilized in rod and main bearing applications in light duty gasoline engines due to their combination of strength with soft-phase properties, such as embeddability and conformability. The load carrying capability of aluminum-tin alloys can be further increased by applying a polymer overlay, but recent advances in engine design, to improve efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions, have resulted in maximum specific load requirements beyond the performance limits of current aluminum-tin products. Effect of Normalizing Heat Treatment on Improvement in Durability and Reliability of Lift Axle Tube of Commercial Vehicle2022-01-024603/29/2022
Lift axles of commercial vehicles are deployed to handle increased payload. These axles of Commercial vehicles are made of low alloy carbon steel materials. Lift axles are designed in hollow condition for weight reduction opportunity. Two types of tube materials are used for the manufacturing of lift axles. These are either Cold Drawn Seamless (CDS) tubes or Hot Finished Seamless (HFS) tube material. The vanadium micro-alloyed steel grade, 20MnV6 is an excellent choice for the manufacturing of lift axles. The 20MnV6 has favorable mechanical properties for lift axles and also offers good weldability. However, lift axles made of 20MnV6 when manufactured in hot-finished condition, shows significant scatter in terms of durability performance. This requires further heat treatment to be deployed for reducing the scatter in the durability performance and thus increasing the reliability of the lift axles. Padded Self-Piercing Riveting (P-SPR) on magnesium high pressure die casting2022-01-028703/29/2022
As a mechanical joining technology well established on aluminum and steel, self-piercing riveting (SPR) is exploring its application on magnesium. The main issue with the development of magnesium SPR technology is the button cracking which is ascribed to magnesium’s limited slip systems in room temperature. To address the issue at room temperature, an innovative padded self-piercing riveting (P-SPR) process was developed to mitigate the cracks by integrating a disposable pad into the rivet setting process. An experiment was designed to join a piece of 2.0mm thick 6061-T6 aluminum to a piece of 3.2mm thick powder coated AM60B magnesium high pressure die casting (HPDC) under 3 different configurations including the conventional SPR process as a baseline, the conventional SPR process with an optimized die and the P-SPR process. This study reports the development of a new combined metal additive and deformation processes to take advantages and reduce/eliminate the drawback from individual process. There are many forms of direct metal deposition processes mainly categorized by the heating source and heat application method used. Abstract— Axle transmits power from the gearbox to the wheels. There are primarily two reasons for reducing the Axles diameter in the case of a bipod CV joint namely, to avoid overdesigning and less articulation angle. As the ATV goes in a bump/ droop, a driveshaft with a larger diameter would hit the walls of the CV joint which creates hindrance in its articulation. And, if the driveshaft is overdesigned, it will add unnecessary weight and effort to the power train which would decrease the overall performance of the vehicle. An alternate CED process for low volume BIW manufacturing with single stage vertical dipping2021-28-022710/01/2021
Body in White (BIW) is a major assembly in an automobile. It is made of sheet metal components that are welded together by Resistance spot welding. Assembled BIWs are put through an anti-corrosion process called Cathodic Electrodeposition (CED) and baked to set the CED coat. CED process has an elaborate sequence of rinse cycles and coat cycles. Single stage dipping stations are used for coating large volumes of smaller components. The high-cost multi-stage setup is a commonly used process in large scale BIW manufacturing systems. In the context of small-scale batch production or prototype builds, the extensive setup is not viable. This paper studied the feasibility of CED coating large BIWs in a single stage setup. Multiple process modifications explored to establish single stage setup for BIW coating. Process capability and effectiveness of utilization was studied. The results were analyzed, and the comprehensive process chain was concluded and discussed for implementation.

This research is contracted to study the impact of post processing routes like heat treatment and heat treated cum shot peening approach on the mechanical characteristics of A356 alloy. A356 alloy composed of aluminium, silicon, magnesium, iron and copper act as a most promising aluminium alloy due to its phenomenal cast ability, corrosion resistant and great strength to weight proportion. A356 is a common industrial alloy due to its great mechanical properties, reduced weight and capability to be casted into complex designs. Friction stir processing (FSP) is a typical process for refinement changes of microstructure, upgradation of material’s mechanical properties and fabricating of surface layer composites. The effect of cast A356 surface composites were fabricated through Friction Stir Processing (FSP) route to appraise the metallurgical and mechanical properties were considered in the present research study. The three combination of test samples of FSP’ed cast A356 alloy, FSP’ed cast A356 FSP with tungsten nano particle addition (5 and 10 vol%) were considered to fabrication under fixed parametric conditions like tool rotational speed of 1000 rpm, load acting 9 kN, tool travel speed of 20 mm min−1 through four number of tool travel passes respectively.
