This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) describes the recommended performance levels for equipment located on the aircraft exterior which produces radiant energy which will provide desired information when viewed with NVIS goggles. These performance intensities, normally stated in candelas for visible light, are modified to consider the goggle spectral response range. Where necessary, location of the equipment on the airplane is specified. The spectral emission characteristics may or may not include visible light. Whether or not visible energy is emitted, this document will refer to these items of equipment as "lights".

This document describes a manufacturing method for processing unidirectional carbon fiber/epoxy resin impregnated sheet and tape into multi-ply broadgoods and tape produced on an automated cross-plying machine. Broadgoods or tape of two or more ply configurations may be processed, where ply orientations of 0°, 45°, 90°, and 135° (as examples) may be automatically layed in a programmed sequence. In all configurations, the 0° ply direction is parallel to the length of the broadgoods roll or sheet, or tape.

This document describes the functions to be performed by airborne and ground components of the VDLM2 to successfully transfer messages from VHF ground networks to avionics systems on aircraft and vice versa where the data are encoded in a code and byte independent format. The compatibility of VDLM2 with OSI is established by defining a set of services and protocols that are in accordance with the OSI basic reference model. The compatibility with the ATN protocols is achieved by defining a set of interfaces between the VDLM2 subnetwork protocol specification and the Mobile Subnetwork Dependent Convergence Function (MSNDCF). The SNDCF is defined in the ICAO ATN SARPs.
