This paper presents a digital methodology that integrates the Installation Quality Assurance (IQA) process through augmented reality (AR) technology to rectify the part accessibility issues for assembly and service at the early design stage of the product. This technology enable engineers to overlay digital data on physical vehicle and verify the installation requirements on vehicle assembly which will meet the installation quality design (IQD) requirements done between OEM & supplier. For example: wire and tube, other aggregates etc. fitted on vehicle. AR will help to enhance visualization and better feel for vehicle integration and packaging aspects while performing fire path analysis, DMU review, DFA, DFS, signoff, etc. a live case study conducted for better understanding of the AR process. There is still much controversy and confusion in industry today regarding the use of process capability indices and analysis. A lack of knowledge regarding the underlying variation assumptions and rationale sampling strategies in indices such as Cp, Cpk, Pp and Ppk have added to the confusion and in many cases has led to misapplication of these widely used metrics. This issue has also promoted inconsistency in the assessment of long-term versus short-term capability and has hampered the true characterization of processes which is a critical step in any continuous improvement effort. Evolutionary Operation (EVOP) experimental design using Sequential Simplex method is an effective and robust means for determining the ideal process parameter (factor) settings to achieve optimum output (response) results. EVOP is the methodology of using on-line experimental design. Small perturbations to the process are made within allowable control plan limits, to minimize any product quality issues while obtaining information for improvement on the process. It is often the case in high volume production where issues exist, however off-line experimentation is not an option due to production time, the threat of quality issues and costs. EVOP leverages production time to arrive at the optimum solution while continuing to process saleable product, thus substantially reducing the cost of the analysis. Accurate Elemental Analysis of Multigrade Lubricating Oils by ICP Method: Effect of Viscosity Modifiers93269410/01/1993
Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP) is an industry accepted method for elemental analysis of lubricating oils. High sensitivity and multi-element measurement capability are some of the reasons for its popularity. The technique has been developed into a formal ASTM procedure, D4951. In many instances, however, the ICP method has been found to yield unreliable results. In particular, elemental analyses of multigrade oils have been frequently observed to be in error by as much as 20%. A study of oil formulation components identified viscosity modifiers (VMs) as having the greatest impact on the accuracy of this technique. The magnitude of this effect depends, among other things, on VM concentration in the lubricant. It has been found that viscosity modifier polymers interfere with the formation of aerosol, a critical step in the ICP analytical procedure, thus affecting the sample delivery to the plasma torch.
