- Proposed rule of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration amends regulations under 40 CFR 573, 577, and 579 to revise the early warning reporting (EWR) rule to require the submission of data on light vehicles with alternate fuel/propulsion systems. The rule specifically requires light vehicle manufacturers to specify in their EWR reports the vehicle type and the fuel and/or propulsion system type, including compressed natural gas, compression ignition fuel, electric battery power, fuel-cell power, hybrid electric vehicle, hydrogen based pwer, plug-in hybrid, and spark ignition fuel. The rule also makes additional changes to the EWR rule and revises standards regarding motor vehicle and equipment safety recalls. Comments are due Nov. 9, 2012.
