- Ammonia sensors enjoyed a brief window of series production in North America, but have since largely been ignored as a component to control diesel exhaust emissions. Presumably this happened due to their unfavorable statibility properties and improvements in NOx sensor hardware and signal processing. With ever- increasing pressure on tail pipe NOx standards and a possible European OBM regulation requiring reporting of tailpipe ammonia emissions, there is renewed interest in the ammonia sensor for series production. We present a set of use-cases where the ammonia sensor is again expected to provide a benefit for tailpipe emissions, and run simulations and parametric studies to quantify the required accuracy specification for the sensor to be useful.
