- Electric Vehicles (EVs), with its inherent advantage of zero tailpipe emissions, are gaining importance because of aggressive push from government not only to reduce air pollution but also to reduce dependency of fossil fuel. EVs and necessary charging infrastructure along with ‘connected’ technology is redefining mobility. Considering the fast growing EV market, it becomes important for an EV Powertrain Architect to design and develop a powertrain solution having low engineering efforts at the same time satisfying business, market and regulatory requirements at a competitive price. This paper presents a compact, flexible, convenient and smart featured simulation tool for an EV Powertrain Architect for estimating the specifications of key powertrain components such as traction battery and electric motor. The proposed tool takes into consideration the end-user as well as the regulatory requirements of range, maximum speed, acceleration and gradeability. 1. The proposed tool is compactly designed considering a. Minimum RAM and memory requirement b. Simple installation c. Single UI for input data and results 2. For the convenience of EV Powertrain Architect, tool is having a. Predefined generic vehicle specifications b. Predefined different drive cycles c. Consideration of regulatory requirements d. Provision for adding design assumptions 3. Proposed tool is flexible, such as a. Same tool for any vehicle category like Car, Bus, 2 and 3 Wheeler b. Preconfigured vehicle dynamic constants c. Provision to input road load constants d. Gradeability value either in “%” or “Degree” e. Simulating same vehicle on different drive cycles 4.The tool is filled with number of smart features like a. Estimate component size for customized drive cycle b. Generate report for communicating results c. Save vehicle information in database d. Graphical representation of motor and battery parameters e. Set different simulation time limit f. Visual effects g. Basic and Full access control h. Tool usage tracking
