- A promising new lubricant for 2-stroke engines has been shown to reduce carbon deposits and to produce a smokeless exhaust hitherto not possible with mineral oil plus additives. This lubricant is polyisobutylene, a polymerized olefin, which is available in commercial quantities. The new lubricant, PIB, has been successfully demonstrated in various field and laboratory tests, all of which are described here.
