- Abundant and economical energy is the life blood of modern civilizations. Adequate availability of inexpensive energy is the most important demand of today. Economic growth and industrialization both are dependent on the availability of energy. Many of the developed Western-European countries as well as developing countries depends a great extent on imports of energy resources to meet the bulk of their requirements. But today the world is facing twin crises of fast depleting world energy sources on one hand and environmental degradation on the other. The recent increase in petroleum prices and the growing awareness related to the environmental consequences of the fuel over-dependency have stimulated the recent interest in alternative energy sources. Alternative fuel source are considered very promising to play an important role in meeting the world’s energy requirements. Orange peel and used plastics are waste materials and can be use as an alternative fuels in diesel engine. In present investigation 5% (v/v) of Orange peel oil is used as an additive in the blends of diesel and waste plastic oil. The various blends were found to be homogenous and stable. Blends were tested in a single cylinder unmodified diesel engine. The NOx emissions were found to decrease significantly at no load condition for various blends as compare to diesel fuel. Brake thermal efficiency shows marginal reduction while smoke opacity and exhaust gas temperature were found higher than neat diesel for all the blends.
