Developed automotive nations reached the stage where any further growth of vehicle population is colliding with the interests of society. This problem can not be resolved through the effort of the automotive industry alone.
The controlled development of transportation systems offers a trade-off between the adverse effects of vehicle population growth and meeting the demand of society in mobility.
In Russia, the theory and the methodology of the land transportation development control has envolved in the seventies.
An attempt has been undertaken at the Technical Center of VAZ to formulate the concept of the Next Generation Transportation System (NGTS). The main feature of this system is the limited urban motor vehicle population in combination with alternative kinds of transportation.
This activity may be of interest to the world community.
