- Auto companies are transforming four and five speed to six and seven speed transmissions. Manual transmissions are being converted to dual clutch design and it is anticipated in North America true manual transmissions will be extinct. Continuous variable transmission although making slow inroads is a threat to PM. Hybrid vehicles using battery powered electric motors and fuel cell powered electric motors pose a continuing challenge to PM. This presentation will cover the new technologies and their impact globally on automotive transmission and opportunities for PM.
