- Fuel composition can affect the octane requirement of a spark ignition engine. Three cars of one European model were run to 80,000 km on fuels containing 0, 0.15,and 0.4 g Pb/litre. Differences in octane requirement among the various fuels were found as the distance traveled increased. This paper also describes octane requirement differences after combustion chamber deposits were removed.
