Researchers are under pressure to investigate and discover ways to improve the efficiency and reduce emissions from internal combustion engines due to the depletion of energy resources and the growing concern over global warming. Hydrogen is viewed as a promising fuel and has been investigated as a potential fuel for combustion because of several desirable qualities like carbon-free content and wide flammability limits. When compared to other alternative fuels like CNG, LPG, LNG, etc., hydrogen has unique qualities because it lacks carbon, making it one of the promising alternatives fuels. In order to achieve zero CO2 emissions for mobility applications in the near future, hydrogen as a fuel in internal combustion engines is a solution. The IC engine powered by hydrogen is prepared for that. The actual drawbacks of using hydrogen in IC engines generally are manufacturing, storage, and development of the requisite infrastructure. It is researched and assessed how hydrogen is produced in its many forms. Hydrogen storage is a significant barrier to the utilisation of this renewable fuel, hence its transportation and storage are being researched. For IC engines, hydrogen can be a flexible fuel, and its required adjustments and adaptations for the current IC Engine are researched. The characteristics and various fuel properties of a Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine are studied in this review paper. This study aims to understand the worldwide scenario of Hydrogen and its emerging demand in the automobile market. We have studied about the various challenges of using Hydrogen as a fuel in India, possibility of on-site production of Hydrogen and the pros and cons of using hydrogen as an IC engine fuel. Keyword: Hydrogen ICE, Carbon Neutral, Safety, Storage, Types of H2.
