High power, high energy and long term reliability feature of Ultracapacitor enables this component to use in various applications as backup power unit, auxiliary power unit and renewable energy storage system. Until now, to satisfy market needs such as higher power, more energy, environment friendly and safety requirements, we have investigated various sorts of electrode materials, electrolyte and other components in the whole system. During this investigation, we focused on gas generation phenomenon which is caused by acetonitrile based electrolyte in electric double layer capacitor especially in abuse condition and is believed as the main reason of environmental and safety problem because of its toxic gaseous substance such as HCN.
