This article summarized the process of developing and verifying the brake system for 3-phase PMSM motor application required for 48V Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) - 48V Integrated Dynamic Brake (IDB). This verification was started as a preliminary one for ecu hardware engineers because of difficulties that a long software development time would be required due to the change of a battery system and electronic devices. Contrary to the concern, the rapid prototyping of FOC control was possible using FOC layered software (abstraction) and the quick system test result was effective to find the hardware errors and reduce the development period of the 48V IDB.
