Authors Abstract
Content
A new class of automotive batteries are being requested by the main car manufacturers during the last years, not only for the integration of higher loads into the vehicle electrical systems, but also due to the increasing introduction of different levels of hybridization, ranging form micro-, mild/medium- to full hybrid electrical vehicles. Over the next five years, Stop&Start will become prevalent in the majority of European vehicles. The battery choice is NOT clear and there will be a continual contest between Enhanced Flooded and AGM Lead-acid batteries. Depending on power/cycling requirements and battery location (engine or trunk) different Lead-acid battery technologies (VRLA/Flooded) and designs (Flat Plate/Spiral Wound) could be proposed.
