The lithium-ion batteries are used in the rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) in electrical vehicles. The RESS system need to be accesses for thermal performance and life prediction. During the vehicle life time the ability of Li-battery to store the energy decreases and this is know as capacity fade. Capacity happens due to cycling and also because of edging in the storage. There is need to estimate the capacity fade for warranty purpose. There are multiple reason for capacity fade and ways to model the cell. The detailed chemistry model can capture the battery inside physics and required forty different battery parameters. The vehicle manufacturer (OEM) can not access these parameters as these parameter are the cell supplier proprietary data. We used new empirical equation based model to capture capacity loss. The model use the cell test data. The cell model developed is used for predicting the cell capacity loss for standard drive cycle.
