- Future steering systems must be compatible with automated driving systems, while also improving the flexibility of the cabin space. To address these needs, a steer-by-wire system with no mechanical linkages is being developed. This paper proposes a control method for a variable steering gear ratio and reaction force to achieve a natural steering feel in a steer-by-wire vehicle without requiring the driver to change hand position on the steering wheel. Moreover, taking advantage of the characteristics of a steer-by-wire system, this paper also demonstrates the effectiveness of a control method that transmits only the necessary road information to the driver.
