The vehicle is assessed for its resource and durability, which depends on the frequency of maintenance under operating conditions. The purpose of the study is to establish the effect of fuel consumption on the resource and the time for performing vehicle maintenance. Mathematical modeling was used to obtain analytical formulas that relate the resource of an internal combustion engine to fuel consumption. It is proposed to regulate the resource and the frequency of service according to the same principles as when adjusting the fuel consumption. The deviation of the actual fuel consumption from the standard value can be obtained experimentally or using the correction factors specified in the method for standardizing fuels and lubricants. The values of fuel consumption along the way and changes in the engine resource are calculated for five categories of roads. For the convenience of applying the method, the coefficients of the resource change and the change in fuel consumption are introduced. Was received a graphical dependence of the mutual change of these coefficients. Recommendations for changing the maintenance period and service life of machines have been developed. The distance to the next maintenance is proposed to be displayed on the trip computer display. It was proposed to create a computer program that automates the process of collecting and processing aggregated information.
