Product design and development is an essential activity in an industry to sustain in the competitive market of today's world. It is also predicted by many expert that the next industrial revolution is going to be on mass customisation. The new product development needs to address the customer requirements to become a successful commercial product. Generally, the products fail to succeed in the market as they do not satisfy the need of the customer. Several systematic approaches are available to execute product design and development in an effective manner. However, there is a lag in maping the actual expectations of the customer with the design features of the product. This research work discuss a hybrid method of new product design and development. The concept of design thinking is fused with the concept of Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate (CDIO). The design thinking tools aid the concept development stage of the design to understand and map the customer requirements with the concept. Later the CDIO approach is followed to execute the design activity. The method is implemented for a case of a new product development and reported in this article. The self evaluation of the outcome of the proposed method expressed its effectiveness in the product design and development activity.
