- In current market situation, automotive makers are targeting light weighting and cost reduction as key areas to improve energy efficiency and total cost of ownership respectively. One such area which is becoming increasing popular is use of alternate cost-effective design solutions in various light duty engine application. In presented approach, engine cooling system for light duty diesel engine has been optimized by use of single fan radiator with resistor unit assy. in place of dual fan radiator assy. Selection of fan motor and new design of shroud was done to achieve weight and cost reduction benefits. Existing dual fan radiator assy. uses a high speed and low speed fan to regulate air flow towards radiator. In novel design, a single fan along with resistor is used to direct the air flow towards radiator and thereby pursue required engine cooling in order to achieve BS-VI emission targets. Finally developed components were verified and validated at vehicle as well as test bed level for its durability and reliability. Newly designed engine cooling system has also verified for its function. At the end test results were compared and further actions proposed.
