Abstract
Content
This paper will focus on the impact of open versus proprietary architectures on accelerating the development of the telematics marketplace. The effect of open and proprietary architectures will be analyzed based on factors such as impact on innovation (technology advancement), profit, and consumer benefit. Once this foundation has been developed, we will attempt to predict the impact of open versus proprietary architectures on emerging marketplaces. The focus of this part of the paper will be an area where IT and automotive collide: telematics. We'll apply the analysis framework to telematics, drawing conclusions about the overall importance of an open architecture in this market.
