The Aviation industry has come a long way in terms of being energy efficient and with an objective to reduce carbon footprint is currently transitioning from traditionally fuel operated to Hybrid Electric system with a goal to completely move to All Electric system. Hybrid Electric system uses fuel as one of the sources and battery or hydrogen fuel cells as an alternate source of energy. All the existing aircraft manufacturers are investing heavily in designing either Hybrid or All electric powered aircrafts. This paper provides an approach to design a Hybrid Electric System for an aircraft by means of a case study and provides guidance on selection criteria for key components involved in design of Hybrid Electric System for an aircraft.
