- This paper reviews and analyzes the testing conducted by the IIHS with respect to Automatic Emergency Braking systems equipped on passenger vehicles when presented with a pedestrian hazard ahead. The paper addresses the differences in how vehicles respond to a moving and stationary pedestrian, the difference in vehicle behaviour if the pedestrian is initially not visible, and the differences in vehicle behaviour when the hazard is a stopped vehicle vs. a pedestrian. Finally, the paper addresses differences in human performance and vehicle behaviour when faced with a pedestrian in motion
