- This paper presents a new contact less 6D motion measuring system for automotive test bench instrumentation. The measurement device is based on three linear CCD cameras, which are mounted on a fixed rigid structure. These three linear CCD cameras can track the 3DOF position of IR emitting LED's in the environment. Combining three LED's on one rigid body allows calculating the 6DOF position (positions and orientations) of a rigid body. Position and orientation of multiple objects in space are measured on-line. The measurement principle is explained together with three case studies:
- A suspension testing system
- An exhaust pipe deformation test system
- Quasi static car body deformations
Using these three case studies, the requirements for such a system are explained both from a hardware and a software point of view.
