Content

With the increasing content of computer controlled systems on vehicles, and the trend toward vehicle-to-vehicle communication, maintaining secure automotive embedded control systems is becoming more of a concern. This paper examines several existing processes for security-critical systems in various domains and proposes an approach to developing a security-critical process that is specific to automotive embedded control systems. The proposed approach considers the best aspects from existing processes that may be integrated together to form a process that is adaptable to the automotive domain of embedded control systems. The paper also examines some specific methods and tools that may be used to implement such a process and examines potential risk assessment strategies to assess the risk of potential threats.
