The increasing growth in the number of infotainment options available in vehicles over the past few years shows no signs of quieting down. Telematics services are expected to stretch far beyond safety and security, letting drivers stay connected to the Internet so they can bring in nearly any diversion they want.

Telematics connections are expected to grow swiftly over the next few years, as more functions are available on more models. Automakers are expanding both the number of models that have wireless links and the number of applications they can access. Safety, security, and diagnostics, not infotainment, are currently the mainstays of telematics.
