New developments in lighting and electronics are changing the way aircrews operate their aircraft.
Over the years, aircraft cockpits have had to accommodate an ever-increasing number of control instruments required to provide the pilot, and other crew members, with the information needed to fly safely and to extract the maximum performance for the job at hand.
By the time the aviation industry was celebrating its half century, aircraft cockpits were running out of space for the display of in-flight data as well as space for banks of dials and read-outs, electrical switches, and buttons, not to mention all the latest highly complex weapon systems aboard new military jet aircraft.
