Fuel for thought

The performance and emissions of a stationary single-cylinder diesel engine is evaluated using an ethanol blend with diesel and jet fuels.

Most people reading this know that the environmental regulations for exhaust emissions from diesel engines are not getting any less stringent in the European Union and the U.S., and that meeting future regulations will require cleaner fuels than currently available. In addition, the continuous increase in diesel fuel consumption has raised the need for new alternatives of diesel fuel that are derived from domestic and renewable sources. For military diesel applications, there is also the need for cleaner JP-8 and JP-5 fuels.
