EDITORIAL: GM goes ‘all in’ on EVs

Twenty-five years ago I drove a prototype of General Motors' first electric vehicle, the pioneering and unfairly maligned EV-1, before its public debut.

I'll never forget piloting the quiet little EV, with a program engineer as passenger, from GM's Milford proving ground to a diner in a nearby village. Four EV-1s were in our group that day, and when we emerged from lunch there were the cars, parked in line across the street. Each was coupled to its own portable charging stand that engineers had set up.
