With close to $1 billion spent on R&D in 2004 alone, Caterpillar is taking a lead role in the push to move the commercial-vehicle industry forward.
Caterpillar, through keeping a close eye on industry trends and communicating with dealers and operators, has continually been able to introduce new technologies to address key issues facing the industry.
At Cat's Tinaja Hills training facility near Tucson, AZ, where the company recently showcased some of its new technologies and 60 model introductions for 2005, Gerald L. Shaheen, Caterpillar Group President, and Bill Springer, Vice President for Caterpillar's Product Support Division, addressed where the industry is headed and how it has changed.
