Bombardier hits 70- to 100-seat regional market running.

Already creating a position for itself in the 50- to 100-seat regional jet market, Bombardier's CRJ200 70-seat derivative, the CRJ700, has recently entered service with its North American launch customer American Eagle. The company is also continuing with development of its 86-seat CRJ900, which is scheduled for certification later this year and first delivery early 2003.

Officially launched January 1997, the CRJ700 was developed to meet the demand for larger aircraft with superior operating economies on regional airline jet routes. With an overall length of 106 ft, 8 in. and a wingspan of 76 ft, 3 in., the aircraft is 19 ft longer and has a wingspan 7 ft greater than the 50-seat CRJ200. To date, the CRJ700 has received certification from Transport Canada, European Joint Aviation Authorities, and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. First customer delivery to Brit Air of Morlaix, France, took place in January 2001, with the aircraft entering revenue passenger service the following month.
